What are the best soundbars with built-in subwoofers?

From the compact ZVOX SoundBases to traditional soundbars with built-in subwoofers from WOHOME, Yamaha, BYL, and more, there are a lot to choose from (by the way, we have a guide on choosing between soundbases and soundbars in case you’re confused). The right one for you depends on your budget, room, sound specifications, and use. Whether you’re purchasing for your living room, home theater, a bedroom, or all of the above, you’re going to find one you love.

ZVOX SoundBase 440 with Built-In Subwoofer

The ZVOX SoundBase 440 (on Amazon) is a mid-range, compact soundbar with one built-in subwoofer. ZVOX Audio is known for manufacturing soundbars and soundbases for those hard of hearing (we’ve explored this at length before), and the SoundBase 440 provides clear dialogue through AccuVoice TV speakers, as well as impressive sound.

Sitting at a much lower price than ZVOX SB700 Aluminum Sound Bar, the ZVOX SoundBase 440 is a home theater soundbase that comes with one 5-1/4″ built-in subwoofer and five 2″ main speaker drivers for a wide sound stage, as well as a 45-watt high-efficiency amplifier. It is 28 inches long and compatible with up to 55″ TVs. The input options include 1 TOSLINK optical digital input, 1 coaxial digital input, and 2 RCA analog inputs.

The SoundBase 440 is known for providing superior voice clarity with ZVOX’s proprietary AccuVoice technology, which is great for anyone – but especially those hard of hearing. It comes with ZVOX’s PhaseCue virtual surround processing system for a three-dimensional, high-quality surround sound experience. It is also equipped with a convenient Output Leveling feature that levels out various media sounds coming from the TV.

Unlike the SoundBase 770, the SoundBase 440 does not come with Bluetooth technology for wireless streaming through your phone. In addition, the SoundBase 440 doesn’t have HDMI ARC connectivity, isn’t able to be controlled by an app, and doesn’t have any HDMI or USB inputs. It is also not compatible with smart home devices like Amazon Alexa or Google Home.

ZVOX SB500 Soundbar

ZVOX is at it again with the mid-range priced SB500 soundbar with built-in subwoofer (on Amazon). It provides all of the same sound clarity features through AccuVoice that ZVOX is known for.

The ZVOX SB500 is a mid-range soundbar with two speakers, a built-in subwoofer with MegaBass, and 140 watts of power handling. It comes with an RCA stereo input and an optical digital audio input.

Although the ZVOX SB500 has a built-in subwoofer, some users noted that it didn’t meet their expectations for low bass that they were looking for, and that it was was best used for sound clarity with decent sound quality.

Like the other ZVOX soundbar systems on our list, the ZVOX SB500 is without HDMI ARC connectivity, HDMI inputs, and USB inputs, and it is not compatible with smart home systems like Amazon Alexa or Google Home.

Wohome Sound Bar 32-Inch 80W Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer

Wohome is a leading manufacturer of smart home products, including WiFi video doorbells, soundbars, and dehumidifiers. It is quickly becoming a recognized name in the soundbar market. The Wohome Sound Bar 32-Inch 80W Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer (on Amazon) is a low-priced 2.1-channel soundbar with built-in subwoofer, DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology, and multiple inputs.

The Wohome Sound Bar 32-Inch 80W Soundbar that includes a built-in subwoofer and a full-range speaker. It includes Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and supports AUX, RCA, USB optical and HDMI inputs. Connect Amazon Echo or your Echo Dot to a soundbar (our guide) via Bluetooth for additional ways of playing music.

The Wohome Sound Bar 32-Inch 80W Soundbar is a great buy for a standard soundbar that exceeds expectations, but a major downfall for this model is that it is lacking in 4K connectivity. Plus, it is not compatible with hands-free smart home devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home, and there is not a dedicated app to control the device from your smartphone.

Wohome 2.1 Channel Bluetooth Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer Model S11

The Wohome S11 (on Amazon) is a low-cost, highly rated 2.1-channel soundbar with exceptional dual built-in subwoofers that provide an impressive sound quality for the price. The Wohome S11 is comparable to soundbars by more recognized brand names for higher prices, as is the standard across the board for Wohome Audio’s products.

The Wohome S11 sits at a slightly higher price than the S10, due to having dual 3-inch subwoofers and two 3-inch full-range speakers, which totals to four drivers and an additional 5 dB of power and deep bass. It is 38 inches long and is compatible with TVs that are 40 inches and larger.

It comes with all of the same integrations and features as the S10, including Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity with the ability to connect Amazon Echo for music play, DSP technology with four sound modes, and AUX, RCA, USB optical and coaxial inputs.

Like the S10, the Wohome is an impressive soundbar as far as quality goes, especially for the price, and it is comparable in quality to other more expensive options. The major cons for the S11 are also the lack of HDMI or HDMI ARC inputs, as well as the inability to connect popular hands-free smart home devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home and you’re probably out of luck if you try with keyboards as well (more on that in our guide).

Wohome 2.1 Channel Bluetooth Soundbar with Built-in Dual Subwoofers Model S28

Also by leading smart home manufacturer and growing soundbar brand Wohome, the low-cost S28 is a 2.1-channel bluetooth soundbar (on Amazon) with a total of six drivers to fill a big living room. It also includes DSP technology and multiple inputs.

The Wohome S28 provides quite a sound upgrade to the S10 and S11, while only sitting at a slightly higher price. It includes two 3-inch subwoofer speakers, two 1-inch tweeter speakers, and two 3-inch full range speakers with 105 dB of max power available. It is 38 inches long and like the other Wohome soundbars on our list, it is also compatible with most TVs 40 inches and larger.

It comes with the same beloved integrations as the S10 and S11, including DSP technology with four sound modes, sound clarity, Bluetooth 4.2 with Amazon Echo music compatibility, and options for USB, optical, coaxial, RCA and AUX input connections.

While the Wohome S28 takes the sound up a level from the S10 and S11, Wohome still didn’t include HDMI or HDMI ARC compatibility. Additionally, it, too, lacks smart home connectivity.

Wohome 2.1 Channel Bluetooth Soundbar with Built-in Dual Subwoofers & ARC Input Model S29

The Wohome S29 (on Amazon) takes the Wohome line of soundbars to the next level with ARC compatibility, while still sitting at a low cost compared to more well-known brands. It includes six built-in drivers, a DSP chip, advanced Bluetooth, deep bass, and high power.

The Wohome S29 is a 38-inch soundbar with dual subwoofers, two 3-inch full-range speakers, two 1-inch tweeter speakers, and 105 dB of power. It is a great fit for 40″ TVs and larger. It comes with a DSP chip and four modes to support movies, music, news and default sound.

It includes Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless streaming music within a 30-foot range, including Amazon Echo compatibility, and it has USB, optical, coaxial, AUX, RCA, and ARC inputs.

The Wohome S29 is a top purchase for the price range and quality, and the only major con is the lack of smart home device integrations.

Yamaha YAS-109 Sound Bar with Built-in Subwoofers, Bluetooth and Alexa Voice Control

From musical instruments to motorsports, audio, visual, and beyond, Yamaha has made its name as one of the most trusted brands in technology. The Yamaha YAS-109 (on Amazon) goes above the standard soundbar mark with high-quality, clear sound, dual built-in subwoofers, and smart home integration.

The Yamaha YAS-109 is the updated version of the popular YAS-108, which also has built-in subwoofers. For only a few more dollars, the YAS-109 is a slim soundbar with a minimalist design that comes with dual built-in subwoofers, Clear Voice sound mode for better sound clarity, DTS Virtual:X for an immersive sound experience, and app controls.

With the YAS-109, you can enjoy Bluetooth streaming and hands-free voice control through Amazon Alexa. Plus, enjoy updates to your YAS-109 soundbar through the smartphone app.

Like many other soundbars with built-in subwoofers at the same price, many users don’t think the sound is as high quality as some higher priced options, as well as traditional surround sound systems. While this is a great soundbar for what you’re paying and an upgrade to very basic soundbars, you may see that it is lacking in the fully immersive surround sound experience you may be looking for, especially in large spaces.

In addition, the Yamaha YAS-109 doesn’t support HDMI ARC and isn’t compatible with Google Home.

BYL 80W 34 Inch Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer

BYL has been making waves in the affordable soundbar market. BYL stands for Better Your Life, and it focuses on using innovative technology to create soundbar speakers that create an immersive theater environment. The BYL 80W 34 Inch Soundbar (on Amazon) uses DSP technology, advanced Bluetooth connectivity and powerful bass to create a high-quality soundbar for its class.

This 34-inch BYL soundbar is the 2019 upgraded version, which includes up to 80W of power with deep bass, a high-sensitivity remote, DSP technology for a 3D surround sound system, and advanced 5.0 Bluetooth technology. This BYL soundbar looks best with smart TVs from 32 inches to 50 inches, but it can be used with any sized TV.

The DSP technology provides three different modes: music, movie, and dialogue, and it prides itself on providing clear dialogue.

Users of this BYL soundbar didn’t have many negatives to say about it as far as sound, quality, and overall enjoyment. The only negative was that although the sound was impressive for the price paid, some could see why other people would pay more for an even better sounding system. It seems that this device can meet the expectations of most people, but tech enthusiasts would probably enjoy a higher-end model.

As far as the basics of a soundbar go, this is a great choice, but you are missing an HDMI input and HDMI ARC compatibility, as well as smart home device integration like Alexa and Google Home.

When you are searching for the perfect soundbar with a built-in subwoofer, you can see that there are many options to choose from. The right one for you will depend on your current technology (i.e. if you want to connect a smart home device or have a 4K TV), your budget, your room, and your personal style.

One thing’s for sure: you can eliminate a lot of extra mess by purchasing a soundbar with a built-in subwoofer, not only because it gets rid of many problems right off the bat but also because most soundbars aren’t capable of having a subwoofer added to them (as we explained here).  No matter which one you choose, you will love the simplicity it gives you, and you won’t have to sacrifice sound quality.
